About Our Rescue

Learn about our mission and history.

When was Sauver Des Chiens founded?

We began our mission to save dogs in 2016, specifically focusing on German Shepherds and other vulnerable breeds left behind in Texas and Louisiana shelters and on the streets

Where are you located?

We are a foster-based rescue operating across Texas and Louisiana, with some fosters nationwide. Our dogs live in real home environments with volunteers until their perfect matches are found.

What is your main mission?

Our goal is to save lives and restore hope. We provide second chances for vulnerable dogs by placing them in loving, permanent homes through a compassionate adoption process.

Adoption Process

What are the requirements to adopt?

Adopters must be at least 21 years old, have a safe home, and provide a stable, loving environment. We conduct virtual home visits and vet checks as part of our approval process.

What are the adoption fees?

Our adoption fees typically range from $400 and $450, depending on the age and medical needs of the dog. These fees go directly back into the rescue to cover vetting, transport, and supplies for our other rescues. We offer discounts for first responders and military.

What does the vetting process include?

Every dog in our care is spayed/neutered, up-to-date on core vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped before adoption. We also treat any known medical issues identified during rescue. Heartworm positive dogs will go through heartworm treatment.

How long does the adoption process take?

The process typically takes 1-2 weeks from the initial application to the virtual home visit and final approval. Our goal is to ensure the best possible match for both the family and the dog.

I am out of state, can I still adopt?

Yes, Sauver Des Chiens has adopted out dogs to most areas of the United States and even Canada. Transport options are available depending on location. Some states may have more stringent requirements for importing rescue animals, so please reach out if you have questions.

Fostering Questions

What supplies are provided for fosters?
Do I need to pay for veterinary care?

We provide all necessary supplies, including high-quality food, crates, beds, collars, and leashes. Our goal is to ensure you have everything you need to care for your foster dog without financial burden.

No. Sauver Des Chiens covers 100% of the dog's approved veterinary expenses. We work with partnered clinics across Texas and Louisiana to coordinate all routine and emergency care.

How long is the fostering commitment?
What if I can no longer foster the dog?

The duration varies depending on the dog's needs and how quickly they find a forever family. Some may stay for a few weeks, while others might need a few months of specialized care and socialization.

We understand that life changes. If your situation changes, contact us immediately. We will work to find a new foster placement, though we ask for a reasonable notice period to ensure a safe transition for the dog.

Can I adopt my foster dog?
What support is available for fosters?

Yes! Foster parents always have the first right of refusal for adoption, provided they meet our standard adoption criteria and complete the required adoption application process.

You will have 24/7 support from our dedicated foster coordinators. We provide guidance on training, behavior management, and animal care to ensure you and your foster dog have a successful experience.
